ABOUT

Downtown Sacramento is the central business district of the City of Sacramento. Downtown is generally defined as the area east of Interstate 5, north of Broadway, and west of 16th Street. Downtown Sacramento is easy to navigate being on a perfect grid, set up using a letter and number system.

Downtown is home to many state buildings, including the California State Capitol. Major shopping areas including Downtown Commons (DOCO) are home to Macy’s, Golden 1 Center, Urban Outfitters, and other local boutiques and shops. The Sacramento Convention Center Complex is also located downtown and offers live theatre, concerts, and other large scale events.

THINGS TO DO

If you love live music and sports, Golden 1 Center is the place for you. Located in the brand-new DOCO shopping area, restaurants, bars, and shops surround the state-of-the-art arena.

Live theatre is plentiful in downtown Sacramento too. Wells Fargo Pavilion (formally Music Circus), Sacramento Convention Center Theatre, Crest Theatre, and Memorial Auditorium all call downtown home. The original IMAX Theatre in the greater Sacramento area is also located in the neighborhood.

Old Sacramento is also a popular tourist attraction on the western most side of downtown Sacramento. It is a riverfront historic district, with Gold Rush-era buildings, cobblestone streets, and horse-drawn carriages. It’s home to numerous museums, including the Sacramento History Museum and the state Railroad Museum, which offers excursion train rides. Souvenir shops sell T-shirts, movie memorabilia, and antiques, and there are several upscale restaurants and a few bars popular with the college crowd.
