ABOUT

Rocklin is located in Placer County and borders Roseville, Loomis, Granite Bay, and Lincoln. Prior to the California Gold Rush, Rocklin was occupied by the indigenous Nisenan Maidu along the rivers and streams which miners sifted, sluiced, dredged and dammed to remove the gold. Some of the dredger trailings are still able to be seen today along Secret Ravine. The area was originally called Secret Ravine or the "granite quarries at the end of the tracks" as late as 1864. When the transcontinental railroad bought land near Secret Ravine in 1864, Rocklin’s population took off. Chinese railroad workers, Irish miners, and Finnish immigrants made up most of the population.

Granite mining ended in Rocklin in 2004. Today, large corporations, such as HP, and Sierra College make up many of the jobs in Rocklin. The city has four districts with distinct architectural - The University District, Granite District, College District, and Quarry District. Each District ultimately creates a unique environmental atmosphere and character, defined geographically based on land use, transportation, and natural features.
